Physical is in fact, a normal progression of

Physical Development Stages

Children
play an important role in the society, because they are the next generation and
will be part of decision maker in the future. As parents, educator or care
taker, we must contribute in equipping them for a more challenger future and provide support necessary to their development.
Because of they usually believe and rely on us, their first learning experience
deeply affect their future physical, cognitive, emotional and social
development. So, improving the early childhood lives is crucial for them and
the best choice that a parent can do for their future success. Child
development is in fact, a normal progression of a child from birth to adult
while growing up by obtaining and improving knowledge, skills and behaviors;
however, Children follow parents step or practice principles giving by
a family member, this is the reason that as parent, we need to guide them and
provide necessary support to their development. In general, child development
involves the following areas: physical, socio-emotional and/or cognitive
development for the stage of development prenatal, infants/toddlers, early
childhood, middle childhood, adolescence. However, physical development is
an important process of child development start from infancy and continue into
late adolescent, which includes absolutely; gross and fine motor skills and
puberty. In fact, as an informed parent of different stage of physical development
(development ages 0-18) I ensure that my children have the best possible fulfillment.

Physical Development Infant / Toddler

The
physical development of infant and toddler is in fact a rapid bodily change
that occurs from conception until two years old. According to specialist, during
“the first 4 weeks of life, generally, most babies weight more than 5 pounds,
while male babies are generally slightly heavier than female babies”. And this
continue during the first 2 years. It is obvious that the physical growth is
rapid, because everyone can see that, from birthweight
to the infant’s first birthday, generally the weight double.

Fine motor and gross
motor infant

Small muscles are in fact refers to Fine motor development and
the larger muscle refers to gross.  According
to specialist, “from 0 to 3 months a babies’ can focus eyes on an object, raise
and turn their head, smile, watch their own hands and so on. By 3 to 6 months, recognize familiar voice, roll over, sit with
help and looking for toys, try to reach for toys and roll over, etc. Beginning
9 to 12months a baby should be able to crawl, climb, begin steps and start
drinking in cup and appropriate bottle”. Because a child need parents’ support
to develop normally, Therefore, I did encourage my children to crawl and walk, move
toward me and so on.

Brain Development

As physical development, the brain development of fetal and
neonatal as is also rapid. Some areas of the brain which are responsible for
basic function develop and then follow by the biggest areas. The neural Tube that is a hollow structure from which the brain and spinal
cord form starts about 4 Weeks after conception; it will
definitely later develop in Central
nervous system which is the complex of nerve tissues that controls the
activities of the body. From around 6 weeks to 10 weeks, the neuron form,
in the neural tube, migrating to the top of the tube where they form the first
layer of Cerebral cortex which is
the gray matter that forms the top portion of the brain. The brain continues to
develop until final step. Because, I
know the brain development is possibly the most important organ in my child
life, I do my best to provide loving cares and stimulation such touching,
playtime, singing and reading to improve my child brain development.

Physical Development Early childhood

Early
childhood, (2 to 6) infant and toddler grow quickly both physically and
cognitively. They become suddenly taller, potential learner and adamantly
asking questions. It’s clear that children lose baby weight and seem look like
athletic. Usually baby has chubby face, trunk and big limbs, but around 3,
there is obviously a big change in all those areas; chubbiness, limbs and trunk
grow longer. As everyone can notice, a child’s physical development improves
starting preschool; this in fact a big step for the child because of peer group
and many different activities.

Gross motor and fine motor

Gross
motor development concerns to physical skills that practice body movements
which is included the entire body. Gross motor control involves also balance
and stability with such movement as kicking, running, jumping, hopping,
skipping, throwing, catching and galloping. As I know that being active is
important for my children body, I teach healthy habit to them and involve in
daily activities with them.

Coordination
between small muscles and wrist are considering as fine motor development.
During the development process, children have the ability to self-help and
manipulate small objects such as scissors and writing tools. Fine motor skills
generally follow gross motor development. The fine motor development involves also independence in manipulate
clothing; dressing and undressing themselves. I was surprise by my daughter
when she came back to preschool and said mommy: “I can take off my clothes by
myself. Preschool is definitely a perfect place for a child to learn and practice.

Brain Development

The
visual area located in the occipital area is developed early and reaches its
peak within 4 months. As long as the visual are and the whole occipital lobe
develop during early childhood,
children are better at processing, recognizing and remembering visual patterns
that are more complex. And the ability to recognize specifics faces are and
emotional expressions from faces are improving by the age 6-8 years, at the
same time plasticity in the visual area is decreasing. The temporal lobes which are the language development, children
make significant progress in learning language. Vocabulary, grammar is
improving according to their environment. So, the frontal lobe and the temporal
lobe allows them to transform the language they hear into a language that the
can speak. As the improvement of language, hand-eye coordination, and the
coordination of many other functions in the brain, the development continues in
the Parietal lobes. The parietal lobes begin to use more energy and become more
active after 2-3 years of age. The frontal lobes: Heavy growth happens between
3-6 years of old. The frontal lobes are responsible for organizing and planning
behavior, so children can participate in group settings like preschool and
kindergarten. Even though my child is in kindergarten, I do my job as a mother
to boost every step on my child development.

 Physical Development Middle childhood

Even though, physical development is a
natural process in every child’s life, track every step of development of a
child as a parent, might have a positive effect. Physical development in the early middle school is characterized by
considerable variations in growth patterns, including
important numbers of children experience overweight
problem. Depend of your gender or origin, your growth patterns may be different. In general, At the
age of 9 girl is essentially the same size as boy. But after 10, most girls
experience a growth spurt while most
boys experience the same growth spurt
after 10; and then grow faster, taller and heavier by the age of 14.

In this period also, the brain and nervous
system develop which leads to a body grow slow during the early part of middle
childhood. A growth spurt occurs in the brain at 8 or 9, so that the organ is
nearly adult size. After 10, the brain shrinks in some way, but still gaining glial cells and myelin. Overall, the brain and system developments continue during
the middle school while further complex behavioral and cognitive potential become possible.

Gross-motor and Fine motor skills

Both
gross-motor and fine motor skills
are coordinate across the middle school. Plays that involve fine and gross
motor development skills have a huge impact on development during this step. According
to Piaget, playing in this phase in in fact related to cognitive development because
children begin to use logic and reasoning in order to achieve their goal. Gross
motor skills are engaged in large bodily movements and fine motor skills
involve small bodily movement. In my opinion, this the best time to involve in
child’s education and build the bridge to success. At
this age, strength improves, and children are enjoying running, jumping, leaping, throwing, catching, climbing, and
balancing. Boys seems to have greater strength than girls; and continue to gain
strength across middle school and adolescence while girls strength increasing
in the early adolescence. Physical activity is recommended by health official
for children. In fact, having a regular physical activity will help in weight control, healthy lung and cardiovascular health, therefore,
I ensure that they are active.

Physical Development Adolescent

Adolescence
is a period of trouble for most parent, psychological changes, but it’s also a
period of physical milestones for teenagers, rapid growth and maturity. The
pick of puberty occurs at around 10 or 11 for female and 11 or 12 for males,
usually puberty is complete for girls by ages 15 to 17 while for boys, it
usually by ages 15 to 17. The body parts also develop for both males and
females. However, female’s growth spurt earlier than males. There is an
acceleration growth in different body part (head, hands, feet) and at different
times. Generally, before puberty, there is no distinction between boys and
girls regarding body fat and muscles, but during puberty the difference is that
boy develop faster muscle while girls has an increase amount of fat. The
development is not only occurred in physical, but also in hormonal change and
sexual maturation. During this time, the adrenal glands and the sex gland
mature which are respectively processes know as adrenarche and gonadarche.

Gross-motor and Fine motor skills

You
might also notice change about both gross-motor
and fine motor skills. A teenager, might have hard time using their fine
motor skills in case of injuries. If for any reason, you have doubt about your
child development, look for help, because other reason can cause his/her to lose fine-motor
skills injuries, such as the brain or spinal cord or nervous system diseases.

Brain Development Adolescent.

Children
body go through physical changes which are obvious to everyone. However, adolescent brain development is less
obvious for most of us, but the brain is still changing and maturing well into
adulthood. The brain is in fact a
part of the body that is control the body’s activities that boost teenagers
confront a lot of challenge and stress most of the time.

According
to research adolescent brain is still growing until adulthood and immature,
also develop at distinct speed depending of the child. Important change occurs
in the gray matter which is “the darker tissue of the brain and spinal cord,
consisting mainly of nerve cell bodies and branching dendrites”. Like the brain
development during the early childhood, there is an increasing number of neural connection or synapse, but boys
seem to show an increase of gray matter rather than girl. The prefrontal cortex is an important area in planning, judgment,
and decision making and inhibiting impulsive responding. As everyone notice,
adolescents react quickly and emotionally to things, the reason is because of
the hormone. They can’t really control their emotions, as an explanation to
that, the amygdala that is a part of
the brain’s temporal lobe stimulated
adolescents’ emotions. And finally, the
dopamine which is a “chemical released by neurons (nerve cells) to send
signals to other nerve cells”. It is in fact stressful stimuli. Depending
the level of the dopamine in the brain, adolescents might react different.

Conclusion

The
real job of a parent is to provide support, encouragement and access to
activities to your child that enable you child to success and also mastering key
development task for confidence in everyday life.  Record and track every bad behavior, abnormally
and notice change about your child. Talk to your child doctor if you
notice any change about his/her development, seeking for help in case of your
child does not listen to you or does not reach your expectations in order to take educational family
leadership. As a matter of fact, you have to impact your children positively;
their life depends on you, do your best to thrive on Routine. This is our responsibility
to increase their brain power and boost their development. For me and mostly for everyone, a child learns basic rules, regulations, norms
and values of society from his family first, because family
education is the earliest education that children could receive, and parents
are the first teacher. Talk to them about your expectations, tips for
development. Because of course nowadays, life today is tough; we have too many
single parent choices that require hard working and personal responsibility, we
tend to fail to our job which is absolutely educate, teaching values, track
development step. By doing well your job as a parent, you will contribute to
the wellbeing of the society.
